The Oak Group, Patricia Chidlaw

| With time my subject matter has changed, rural to urban. Now I feel my real connection with the Oak Group artists is in our mutual concern for what is being lost in our world today. I don't see the destruction of open spaces as being that different from the loss of our architectural heritage. Both are equally threatened by the forces of irresponsible development, as forest land and unique city and town centers and neighborhoods are increasingly being replaced by a homogenous landscape of franchise stores and huge parking lots. We now see identical businesses selling identical merchandise across the entire country. I believe the Oak Group was prescient in realizing how seriously our landscape is being threatened, and the need for citizens and artists to become actively involved. Born in San Francisco, California, May 18, 1951 Education: University of California, Santa Barbara |
