The Oak Group, Donald Archer Oak Group-Donald Archer
For me, the subject or motif is a starting point, not an end. My paintings are meant to be evocative rather than descriptive. I want the painting to be the reality—not a mimic, illusion, or copy of something other than it is. I see painting as a language—like poetry, music and dance, or mathematics.

Everything needn't be spelt out. I believe ambiguity is a positive value; the viewers, bringing their experience to the painting, participate with me in the creative process and give the painting personal meaning. Beautiful or ugly, masterly or clumsy, I care only that the painting has life.
