Painting is an adventure. Each time I wander out with a blank canvas, I discover new terrain, maybe an unused trail from which I find a new way of observing the world, and I learn from it. I think painting allows me to experience the process of discovery from both a physical and an intellectual place; while I am creating something fairly tangible and thick with my medium, I am also forming fresh opinions—coloring the earth with new hues. The painting itself, then, is secondary to the experience of growth. Nature feeds us with her layered display of mystery and unknown. The silent spaces and the untouched compositions are those that attract me the most. I am honored to be able to protect these places with my art.
